Shopping with my son Thomas

Today I went shopping with my son Thomas. He is a good looking fellow (see his picture), intellectual, with a creative spirit or should I say mind? He has been to a private school in Virginia Beach and he would go to the Technical University Delft, but he decided to stay closer to home and decided to go for the study higher computing in Leeuwarden. We, the parents had just bought a house in Sint Annaparochie. After one year higher computing Thomas decided that it was not the right choice for him and wanted to go to art school St. Joost in Breda to become an artist. Wow, what the fuck. Our daughter Yvette just left Sint Annaparochie because she fell in love with some guy in Oosterhout which became her ex husband and now my son would leave for a study in Brabant, a part in the south of the Netherlands (this is for Mary) We went crazy. The kids left the house and the parents stayed behind in that fu....g place St. Annaparochie. No way!!! We sold the house and we bought a house in Teteringen (near the golf-course), because I love to play golf. I digress, we went to Rotterdam by train today and had a very good time as father and son. We closed the day with the film Up.

ZEN IN THE MARTIAL ARTS, 禅の武道に

Wanneer je dan 7 dagen per week met aikido bezig bent, ga je ook op zoek naar lectuur over je favoriete sport, je wilt er immers zoveel mogelijk over lezen en bestuderen. In Amerika heb je een enorm aanbod aan martial arts lectuur. Ik heb in de vier jaar dat ik in Amerika woonde een enorme hoeveelheid boeken over aikido in mijn handen gehad en even zoveel boeken gekocht. Boeken over en van de oprichter van aikido O-sensei Morihei Ueshiba, または盛平先生. Boeken van zijn leerlingen die elk hun weg zijn gegaan en aparte stromingen binnen het aikido hebben ontwikkeld. Hier volgt een korte opsomming van de belangrijkste stromingen en hun grondleggers.

TOMIKI AIKIDO . Kenji Tomiki
SHINSHIN TOITSU AIKIDO. Koichi Tohei
SHIN BUDO KAI. Shizuoi Imaizumi
AIKI - JUTSU. Minamoto - Takeda familie; de meest illustere familie van militairen en krijgskunstenaars in Japan.

Het merendeel van de stijlen heb ik in boekvorm. Als je dan aan het zoeken bent naar aikido-juweeltjes kom je in de periferie andere juweeltjes tegen. Er is er een die ik u niet wil onthouden, nl. het boekje zen in the martial arts. Een prachtig boekje, dat u werkelijk zou moeten lezen. Op de kaft aan de achterkant staat: "If one of your goals is to live with maximum zest and minimum stress, read ZEN IN THE MARTIAL ARTS by Joe Hyams. En een minimum aan stress krijgt u zeker, al is het alleen maar tijdens het lezen van dit pracht boekje!De achterkant heb ik u niet willen onthouden, maar ook zeker de voorkant, pagina 3 wil ik u niet onthouden. Hierin bedankt Joe Hyams een aantal mensen: "To Pat Strong, who patiently and wisely guided me in each stage of my martial arts training for many years and always provided an example of the complete martial artist". Dan volgt er ook nog een bedankje voor zijn vrouw.
"And to my wife Elke, who has never entirely understoot my absorption with the arts, but, nevertheless, has always been encouraging". Dit is toch een geweldig stukje? Zijn vrouw die geen reet begreep van zijn verslaving, maar hem toch bleef aanmoedigen. Dit is toch om tranen van in je ogen te krijgen?
